About two years ago I found out that a new Predator movie was in production. After the failures of Predators and the AVP movies I decided to talk about what I wanted out of this film. We haven’t heard much about the new movie, but more and more information is coming out and from what I can see it is ticking all of those boxes I talked about. Now with the movie only a few months away, I think it’s about time we talk about everything we know about The Predator.
The Predator was written by Fred Dekker and Shane Black, who will also be directing the movie. This comes with a bit of prestige with both of them being writers on the original Predator movie. We have two people who know what the predator is all about and should hopefully do him justice. Before the 20th Century Foz panel at CinemaCon (you have a Con for everything these days) the studio actually released the very first plot synopsis, it reads:
“From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.”
This means they have brought the Predator back to earth which is a much better fit when we have the home field advantage and he still fucks us up. The story will follow Quinn McKenna (Boyd Holbrook), a former marine who discovers evidence that a Predator is here on Earth. As you expect no one believes him that an 8-foot dreaded murder alien is here, leading him to go and personally try and do something about it– part of this is putting together a team that can hopefully stop the Predator. And, From what actor Thomas Jane revealed about the story a wee while back, it doesn’t sound like putting the team together is an easy task.
The part that I know about is the stuff that we did, and we play these veterans from like Afghanistan or whatever, the Iraq War. Whatever, you know? But we’re all fucking crazy, right? So we go to the VA hospital to get our meds, and we’re all shellshocked, PTSD soldiers. We’re at the VA hospital and we all, in like group therapy, and of course, somebody flips out. This is backstory, I don’t think we really see this, but somebody flips out and we all get arrested and thrown onto the bus to go down to the hospital, right? Then they throw this other guy on the bus, too, and he’s a guy that they’re actually marked to kill him. Because he’s seen the UFO. He’s seen The Predator ships come down. So they lock him up and they throw him in with us lunatics, and they’re gonna take [the] bus and drive us down into a ditch and shoot us all, just to get rid of this one guy. But, of course, we take the bus over and we’re all ‘fuck that, man. Let’s go kill these fucking Predators ourselves.’ We’re just crazy enough to believe that this guy really did see a UFO.
The predator will be returning to an R rating for his new outing, which has made me and a lot of other fans happy. You can’t have the Predator without the gore and violence, right? Well, it looks like writer/director Shane Black agrees as he took to his personal Twitter account and wrote, “And, just to be clear… PG-13 is for pussies. Spines bleed… a lot”. I think we all know what that means.
The New Predators
We get treated to two new designed predators, one who has the traditional look of a Predator, slim, agile but powerful. Then you have the new Predator which seems to be the new genetically upgraded one. Who is much larger in size and that’s all I can say about him, there is nothing really out there about him yet. We do love a bit of mystery.
The Predator is out on the 13 September 2018 and I for one am super excited for the carnage to come.
